United Front Live on Letterman

You know, blog contributor Christian LeBlanc posted this nearly two years ago and I don't recall ever posting it.  Not sure how I missed it.  Anyway, here's a cool video of the group performing United We Stand on Letterman, so check it out!  And nice work Christian.

Egg Beaters - Zingalamaduni Version

A while back, I posted the mixtape version of "Eggbeaters." But I finally received the album version that appears as a bonus track on the import version Zingalamaduni a couple weeks ago, so here it is, in case you don't have it. Really a great song and sounds even better in it's album format I think.

Supposedly there is an import version of this album that features remixes to "Ease My Mind" (the DJ Premier remix) and "United Front (Noise In My Attic Remix)" but luckily those songs are available elsewhere so we have already had them posted here.

Southern Fried Funk

Southern Fried Funk. This was a b-side from the United Front single. I had no idea it existed until I ran across the Classic Masters hits package. So I picked it up, and really, I'm not sure why this song didn't make Zingalamaduni. I love it.

The Classic Masters album also has a different version of "Like Marvin Gaye Said (What's Going On?)" that I'll have to post soon. It's not advertised as such so I'm not sure where this mix came from. It edits out the Marvin Gaye sample, so maybe it came about due to a rights issue.

Here's a somewhat funny story tied to this song- apparently Speech was asked to come up with a slogan for the city of Atlanta and he suggested "Southern Fried Funk." Hey, why not? It's better than the slogan here in Omaha- "O, what a city!" Indeed.

Ease My Mind- Director's Cut

Here's a nice little find on youtube- the director's cut of the "Ease Your Mind" video. This was apparently posted by the director of the video, who had some interesting background on the video.

One of my most favorite groups I'd ever have the pleasure of directing.

Speech + family, and I, reunited for this clip from their second album, "Zingalamaduni". He decided on the same hairdo from our stint together on "Mr. Wendall". Worked perfectly.

If you look closely, there are a few "soon to discovered" celebrities - actor Dorian Missick ("Two Weeks Notice", "The Manchurian Candidate", "Lucky Number Slevin" and "Premium"), Phokus (musician/illustrator extraordinaire...), Nadirah Shakoor (an amazing songwriter and vocalist..., and dance instructor Terri Ajile Axam.

Another Dream Collabo

So preceding the dream collaboration of Speech and Organized Noize, we had another dream team: DJ Premier remixing "Ease My Mind".
