Disciples of a Lyrical Rebellion

I have a problem. For some reason, I am OCD about certain things and thus I am not happy until I have completed collecting whatever certain thing it is that I'm into. And five years ago or so, when I "rediscovered" Arrested Development through buying a few of the newer albums from their website, I decided I had to have everything. Nothing new, I've got basically complete discographies of a lot of artists.

But, of course, finding every Speech and AD album is a little harder than rolling into the nearest Best Buy and grabbing an armful of CDs, or even digging through the used bin at a record store (if you have one that's still open near you anyway). And so I did the best I could-bought everything I could on the website, found a few other projects not sold there, bought a few things from Japan on ebay, but there was one album I couldn't find.

This. Disciples of a Lyrical Rebellion, which is the name of Speech's first group (oddly enough, reports say that it was a gangster rap group, which all sorts of blows my mind). Now, let's face it, most people would look at the tracklist and say, well, I have most of those, no big deal. And after searching for it off and on, I said the same thing. Eh, I tried, no big deal. It's made up of songs from AD's first two albums and Speech's first two albums. But I'd be lying if I said that it didn't bother me just a little bit, because, you know what, there are a few songs on there that I don't have and by golly they might be great songs....

It's sickening.

But anyway, the other day I happened to run across not one, but two copies on ebay, and for a reasonable price. So yeah, I bought one. And yesterday, it finished it's long journey from Taiwan and arrived in my mail box.

So, was it worth it? Well, it does have a few songs and mixes not found elsewhere, plus some wacky interludes throughout, so yeah- totally worth it....

Anyway, here are a few of the things from the CD that are exclusive or somewhat exclusive to the project:

The Hey Song (Ram Jam Remix): This is a different remix than what appears on the "Hoopla" album and works really well. I like it. It also appears on "The Hey Song" single.

I Really Love You (Remix): Another really good remix. This is known as "Always In Love" on Spiritual People.

Daddy's Not a Criminal
: Here's a sample of one of the types of interludes that appear on this project- they kind of "stitch" the album all together.

The Paul and Silas Jailhouse Blues: Now here you go. This is what I like about finding unreleased songs, because a lot of times you find people doing off the wall stuff outside of their comfort zone.

Have a Little Coof (Early Morning Freak Session): This song sounds dirty, and I'm probably an idiot but I don't know what coof means. But this is another one that's off the wall, but works much better as a song. Fun song. Love the digs at Amway- I was conned into meeting with one of those people too, and I'm sorry but I don't believe Tide is made from 95% sawdust, man....

Movin On (edit): Seems to be a little different mix of this classic Speech song.

Well, if anyone wants the rest of the interludes to put together their own Disciples collection, let me know.
