People Everyday aka Tokyo 1994

You just never know when an AD project will drop. About a year ago this little CD/DVD called People Everyday aka Tokyo, 1994 dropped with little fanfare from a company called Charly. This seems to be their specialty, as they have released live discs for other hip hop artists such as Public Enemy and Snoop Dogg.

If you've ever wondered what the AD live show sounded like before they were backed by arguably the best live hip hop band in the business (does everyone have to say The Roots?), then this DVD is the answer to your question. Truth be told, they sound really good. Speech sounds remarkably like the album versions but is clearly performing live, and he isn't being shouted over by some idiots in the background nor is the music drowning him out. The turntable work by Headliner is done really well also, and the backing vocals are on point. It's no wonder they have done so well in Japan- I'm sure it started in large part by putting on professional shows like this.

It looks this is available in a CD case or DVD case format. I'm not sure if the DVD format includes the audio CD or not, but the CD case has both- and the DVD is region 0, which is a nice touch for an act that is popular in some many areas. The DVD itself is not the best quality recording, but really, how good do you need a concert video to look?

Here is the track listing:

1. Introduction
2. Give a Man a Fish
3. Dawn of the Dreads
4. Fishin' 4 Religion
5. Rainin' Revolution
6. Tennessee
7. United Front

9. Africa's Inside Me/Revolution
10. Mr. Wendal
11. Natural
12. Southern Fried Funk
13. Mama's Always on Stage
14. People Everyday
15. Outro

I'll post up a few sample tracks at a later date, but if you'd like to hear some samples, Amazon does have them available.
